Losing baby teeth is a significant milestone in your child’s life. Your little one’s baby teeth will start to fall out around the age of 6 to pave the way for adult teeth. The first loose tooth is thrilling for some children because at that stage they’re restless to get free of all signs of babyhood. However, losing that first one is also scary because they don’t know what to expect when it comes out.
Here are 4 easy tips you can follow to help your child pull a loose tooth out:
- Continuous Tooth Wiggling
Urge your child to wiggle the tooth back and forth with their tongue or clean hands. If persistent wiggling does not produce any discomfort, they can continue with it throughout the day until the free tooth comes out.
- Wet Wash Cloth/Gauze
A cold, damp washcloth or a gauze piece can be used to grip the tooth and turn it to pull it out quickly. Freezing temperature creates less pain and discomfort during the actual tooth removal. Subsequently, the gauze or washcloth can be used to stop any occurrences of bleeding.
- Flossing Technique
It’s the most tried and trusted method of removing a loose baby tooth when it is loose yet won’t fall out on its own. Help your child position the floss in the middle of the loose tooth and its adjacent tooth. Applying a back and forth motion, try to twist the floss at the base of the loose tooth.
- Dentist Visit
If the loose tooth is not being removed easily and beginning to cause problems, you should take your child to the dentist and have them take out the tooth. They apply an anesthetic to make the technique painless for your child.
Use the tips mentioned above for painless removal of your child’s loose tooth or pay a visit to your dentist. Either way, the issue will be resolved, and the discomfort of waiting will be over soon.
